Onesimo at 2008

The 2008 has been a productive year for us in Onesimo. For the first time in many years, we have achieved a series of success in terms of accomplishment in every aspect of the ministry. This will never happened without the efficient staff around us who painstakingly carried out the specific task assigned to them.

We have organized the Lighthouse Community, the group of former Onesimo clients and have now living in the real world (outside Onesimo). They are fully organized now, having their own programs and workers who are extending volunteer service in our centers.

We also have the highest number of clients; we have reached more than 105 numbers of youth clients. Furthermore, in view of the fact that the center parents are focusing on the clients, it results to only few runaways (takas). They are all sheltered in our eight different centers. Another center is being built in Payatas.

The families of the clients are very cooperative now, unlike few years back, they are now participating in the program designed for them. In fact, we have the highest attendees of Parents retreat, Family Orientation, Christmas party and other family activities and programs.

This year, we spearheaded the training of Alternative Learning System’s Instructional Managers. And the Department of Education has given us recognition as Service Provider in promotion and implementation of ALS and ELSDS programs. We have partnered with many urban poor churches to promote ALS in the community.

We renewed and strengthen our partnership with EARIST, a Philippine State University, who provided instructor and curriculum for the skills training of our clients and youths from the urban poor community.

A newly constructed building for the Kids were dedicated to God, designed to house the different programs of the Kids Shelter.

A while ago, I asked the center parents why these young people are staying with Onesimo, “We have organized and different programs now. Possibly, a staff dedicated to their craft as well. Giving focus on the needs of the clients” They replied.

We have accomplished something but there are so many things to be done. These achievements were done through the common effort of the staffs and leaders of Onesimo. However, the real credit and honor belongs to the Lord Almighty who gives us wisdom and strength. Glory to God!!!
