Personal Enhancement and Leadership Trainings

Personal Enhancement and Leadership Training program provides the Onesimo trainees the proper perspective of oneself, others and their context rooted in the Scriptures. It aims to increase self-appreciation and care, improve social conduct and relationships, provide practical know-how on job seeking and keeping, and develop social awareness and sense of responsibility.

The first level is about oneself—including seminars on proper hygiene and changes in the body upon puberty, knowing oneself, overcoming past hurts and boy-girl relationships. It also includes seminars that will help trainees understand others (including their parents), acquire beginning skills in relating well and properly with people, develop a meaningful relationship with God, and practical know-how in time and money management. The second level prepares them to do service which includes seminars and exposures on basic leadership skills and more practical aspects of seeking and keeping a job.

Alternative Learning System
(Non-Formal Education Program)

The Alternative Learning System is a non-formal education program that offers basic education to its clients, enabling them to meet the expectations and requirements of everyday life and seek employment opportunities. This program utilizes a modular form of instruction and adheres to the curriculum provided by the Department of Education through the Bureau of Alternative Learning System. It consists of three levels: Basic Literacy, Elementary and High School.

In the Basic Literacy class, clients are taught essential skills such as reading, writing, and basic computation. Typically, the program lasts for three months, and trainees who are deemed ready for the Elementary level are recommended for advancement. The modules in the elementary and Junior High School levels equip and prepare trainees with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the national examinations administered by the Department of Education. Passing these examinations is equivalent to completing either elementary or Junior High School education, thus making the trainees eligible for higher education. Those who receive accreditation at the Junior High School level are qualified to pursue studies in Senior High School.

The Onesimo non-formal education program has undergone evaluation and subsequent changes in its implementation. It now aligns with the government’s Alternative Learning System (ALS) described above. This initiative aims to assist trainees in working at their own pace and enhancing their chances of successfully passing the government’s equivalency and accreditation examination.

This program ensures that every trainee will, at a minimum, acquire the ability to read, write, and perform computations. At its best, the program aims to enable trainees to successfully pass the government’s accreditation and equivalency examination for the high school level. This is crucial as many job openings typically require applicants to have at least a high school diploma.

On-the-Job Training

This phase of the entire equipping process is regarded as integrative, wherein all the inputs from other training components can be harnessed and applied by the trainees. This training was envisioned to offer the trainees not only the chance to refine the skills they have acquired but also to provide them with actual employment opportunities. Its purpose is not only to familiarize them with the concept of employment but also to cultivate desirable work habits that will not only enable them to thrive but potentially give them an advantage in the workplace.

The cultivation of desirable work habits, which encompasses attributes such as punctuality, consistent attendance, reliable performance, adherence to rules and policies, and maintaining orderliness, will be a core commitment of our program
